Interactive Art-Related Websites for Children

The following websites offer fun, interactive art-inspired web applications with content suitable for elementary school-aged children. Most of these sites require the use of a PC or MAC computer with the Adobe Flash Player or Adobe Shockwave player add-ons (not a mobile device).

Jackson Pollock by Miltos Manetas
Use this Flash animation tool to create your own Pollock-like splatter design. Mouse clicks change the color.

MoMA’s Destination Modern Art
Travel to MoMA with an alien! Kids ages 5-8 can explore painting, sculptures and installations online. Requires flash.

National Gallery of Arts – The Art Zone
NGAKids interactives offer an entertaining and informative introduction to art and art history. Featuring a variety of art-making tools that encourage exploration and creativity, these computer-based activities are suitable for all ages. Requires shockwave player.

Picasso Head
An in-browser digital tool created by PR firm Ruder Finn that allows users to create their own masterpieces using famous features drawn by Picasso. Requires flash.

8 interactive activities are available for iPad. Recommended ages 9-11.

MoMA Art Lab
Get creative and use this app to create a mobile, a shape poem, a group drawing and more, then save and share your artwork. Intended for ages 7 and up.

If the website uses the Adobe Shockwave Player, you should verify and or update the Adobe Shockwave Player. Users of a 64-bit browser on 64-bit Windows OS will have to run Shockwave apps on a 32-bit browser.
